Hailman Gets Last Lap Win The SportMods again went through 4 tough qualifying heats and a B feature to narrow the field to 20 cars and provided 3 wide racing all night long. Eric Tinderholt jumped to the early lead but Jerry Lankton moved to the top spot on lap 2 and was looking to become the 8th different winner this season. Lankton started pulling away from the field as Mickey Burrell began his charge to the top spots on lap 7 and set his sights on Lankton. On lap 10,Shawn Williams night came to an end as his car stalled in turn 4. On the restart Lankton found Burrell close behind as JC Morton moved into the mix for the lead along with Mike Hailman and last weeks winner Roy Maynard. On lap 17, Morton moved ahead of Burrell only to see Burrell take back the lead on lap 18 as Hailman moved around Lankton for third. On lap 19, while it was a 3 wide battle for the lead, Gary Rodocker’s car spun in turn 4 setting up a 1 lap shootout. With Burrell in the lead, Morton choose the inside lane on the double-file restart with Hailman getting the outside. The Green and White both came out together as Hailman found a good bite up high in the turns and barely nipped Burrell for the win to become the first repeat winner in SportMods with Burrell, Morton,Maynard and Lankton completing the top 5 as 16 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap and only 3 cautions flew in the feature. |

3rd
PLACE
|
The SportMod feature had local resident JC Morton grab the opening lead over the 20 car field and never looked back in grabbing his first win of the season. Morton was able to withstand a 2 lap shootout over the field as point leader Billy Street and Mike Hailman battled hard for the runner-up spots with Mike Watson and Darrin Crisler following close behind. Mike started 14th in the feature. He had a rough time trying to get through the field of 20 cars. Mike finished 3rd place! It was a good night to get some point, and we did just that. This race moves Mike into 2nd Place in the Point Standings Jim H. |

WE
WON!

In other action at the Springfield Race Way, Mike Hailman grabbed the early lead in the Sport Mod feature but it wasn’t easy as Charlie Gentile gave chase. Sean Williams was quietly working his way forward and even overtook the leader Hailman only to have the caution fly sending him back 1 spot. A 2 lap shootout at the end would see Gentile make a run at Hailmann , but he jumped the cushion in turn 2 loosing a few spots as a tight pack battled for third place as Billy Street, Andy Beauchamp and a hard charging Jerry Lankton rounded out the top 5 as 2-3 wide racing as the norm all night long.
Mike also won his Heat! |

August 30, 2008 We did OK, we finished 7th. And, Mike Watson, who we are battling for First Place Points finished 11th. Therefore, we gained six points on him, now we are only 14 points down from the Championship with only two races left this year. Mike is really working hard to beat Watson Jim

August 16th, 2008 Well, we finally got to race (NO RAIN). The weather was a perfect 85*. We won our heat race, but it was a tough war. The feature started with 24 cars. We actually got to finish a race without trouble. Mike drove the car as hard as I have ever seen. We finished 4th . An all of were very happy it was over. Several bad wrecks and a rollover made this race something you were just happy to get a good finish. Mike also drove the #86 Bomber car. He was never in or driven a Bomber car in his life. He won the heat race by a full straight away. When it came to the feature it was a little harder but he pulled off a well earned win . All in all, we had a great night of racing. We had so many bad days of racing in the last few weeks that we lost the Point Lead by about 20 points but last night we got back about 17 of those hard earned points. Just a guess but I think we are about three or four points out of the lead right now with five races to go for the 2008 season. Jim |

June 14th, 2008 By Jim Hailmann !!! WE WON !!! This was a very very hard race to win. We did not win our heat race, came in second. Had to start third row, now the place to start on this race track tonight. That put us on the inside row, and Mike had to work his way to the top of the track. Three of the cars starting up front were very fast. We passed two cars on the inside, boy was I surprised and excited. Then, we got to the outside and passed one more to put us in second place. With about five laps to go, Mike pass the other car, and we took the lead for good. Mike drove the wheels off the car, HE DID A GREAT JOB. We had a great pit crew last night, thanks to Christina, Carol, Brian, and John Gamble (and I helped some also). Mike is still 1st in Point Standing...

Well, we did not win, but we got a very hard fought second place. The track was very dry and dusty. Every one had to run the top of the race track and there wasn't very much passing. We are still First in points. |

CHARIOTS IN THE ARENA Imagine in the days of the Roman Empire…the coliseum, the gladiators, and the chariots. Mike Hailmann in the #85 and Mike Watson in the #25 battled it out from the drop of the green flag in the Sport Mod feature at the Springfield Raceway for 15 laps. Hailmann would lead lap one, but after that it was a door to door, bumper to bumper “war” that had race fans and crews for both teams on their feet. Watson was hooked up on the bottom of the track; Hailmann was a rocket on the high side. It was the most competitive, exciting race of the evening and track officials were looking at video to try and determine the winner. Lap after lap the “gladiators” and their “chariots” roared around the track…dirt was flying, the cars were “sideways” and the motors were “breathing” fire. When the checkered flag was waving, out of turn #4, the #25 and #85 were side by side. Fans were on their feet cheering and at the line it was too close to call by track officials. After lengthy and careful review of video tapes… Mike Hailmann in the #85 made it 2 in a row at the Springfield Raceway. Two of the most talented drivers in the field put on a display of great chassis setups, finely tuned engines and the desire and intensity that will make them the drivers to watch as the season progresses. With a lot of talented drivers and good racecars in this class, should make for exciting racing for the fans and drivers in the Sport Mod division. Great going, Mike!

April 19th, 2008 By Gary Woodall
Mike Hailmann showed some awesome talent, coupled with a near perfect setup and horsepower combination in winning the ‘B’ Modified feature race opening night at the Springfield Raceway located in Springfield, MO. The Pushrod Factory Racing Engines white and red #85 was hooked up from the start of the feature. Mike nearly “flatfooted” all the way around the dirt oval on April 19th on a cool and blustery night. Jim, Mike’s dad, owner of Pushrod’s, and an expert on racing engines, put together a perfect combination in the motor and it showed as Mike outclassed the field the entire race. On the last lap of the race, as the white flag was displayed indicating one more lap to go, the left front wheel on the modified racer was off the ground nearly all the way around the track. Nearly ideal track conditions, an absolutely great set up, and awesome horsepower were 3 of 4 key factors in the victory. The other factor, years of experience in go-karts, Mini Stocks, Factory Stocks (2005 Track Champion at the Springfield track), a great Rookie year racing in the Show-Me Racin Series touring Late Model class, and just plain talent that Mike has acquired in his many years of racing. A lengthy technical inspection of the car found that the #85 was well within the rules for the class, and the young Mike Hailmann was very pleased with the victory…and of course the payday that came with it. Congratulations Mike! |
