Mike was interested in racing at a very
young age. He has gone to races since he was 6-months old. His
father, Jim, was involved in drag racing and Mike was always with him.
When Mike was 4-years old he was driving a go-kart around the cul-de-sac at his
parent's business, with phone books behind his back so he could reach the
pedals. When the family moved to Missouri from Illinois, his father talked
about getting Mike into go-kart racing.
At the age of 9 1/2, Mike had his first
go-kart. Nothing special, in case he didn't like it. He started
racing mid-season in 1996 and ended up 10th in points in the Junior I Division.
Mike's second year, 1997 of go-karting his
parents purchased him a new Predator kart. Mike took 2nd in the
championship points at Springfield Airport Speedway missed 1st place by only 23
points.
In 1998, his third year, he was out for
blood. He won the championship at both Airport Speedway in Springfield, MO
and Bolivar Speedway in Bolivar, MO. Airport Speedway is a dirt track and
Bolivar is on blacktop. Mike also raced his first and only 4-wheeler race
in the Youth Division... he won that race.
In January 1999, Mike inducted into the
Ozark Area Racers Reunion for the "Future Old Timers" award.
Mike moved up to the Junior II Division. Nothing was holding him back from
running with the older group. He won the Junior II Championship Points at
Airport Speedway.
In 2000, Mike decided to race cage karts,
he raced that for a 1/2-year when he and his father decided he needed to move up
to mini sprints. Mike did very well in the Mini Sprint, getting use to
driving something larger than a go-kart or 4-wheeler. Mike's first night
out, he finished 6th place. Not bad for the first time.
In 2001, it was once again Mike's
year. He won the Championship for the Mini Sprint at Airport Speedway.
Once again in the middle of 2002, Mike and
his father decided to move to another class. Mike wanted to run open Mini
Stock. Mike finished 6th place in points with the Mini Stock.
In the 2003 season, Mike raced in the open
Mini Stock class with a new car. By the end of the race season, he
finished the year in 3rd place in points missing 2nd place by 3 points.
In 2004, Mike started running the open Mini
Stock class again, only to move up to Factory Stock mid-season. He did
well in Factory Stock and won the Rookie of the Year Award for Factory Stock.
In 2005, again it was Mike's year!
Out of 42 races, Mike finished with 15 Wins, 13-2nd, 5-3rd, 2-4th, 3 5th, 2-6th,
1-9th and 1-11th place. He also ran the 4-State Championship at Monett,
Mo. And the Coca Cola Classic Fall Brawl in Lebanon, Mo. finishing 2nd on
the bumper of the leaders in both the races. He won the Championship
points at the Springfield Speedway for Factory Stock by 35 points ahead of the
2nd place car.
In the 2006 season, Mike will be running
